The first step will be a "Terms of Reference" document, which will contain:

• Terms of Reference for the engagement of Solutions Ahead on the project
• Terms of Reference for the project itself (which you may already have)

Once these are agreed, we'll get to work and start liaising with the parties in the project.  We may be working with your project plan or we may have been engaged to create one.  Either way, the cycle of status reporting and/or plan updating has begun.

Issues which arise will be identified and formalised in the agreed manner and resolutions found.  Open and full communication between the parties will be encouraged and developed.  Identified milestones and budgets will be monitored and the consequences of any delays or new costs will be determined - dare we say it ......

A good phrase and one which encapsulates much of what this is all about.  The essence of managing a project is to have a good framework - Terms of Reference - and stick to it.
